Scotia Grendel are now offering their Sci Fi ruleset Kryomek and Hivestone add on free in PDF format from their website. The bad news to get them you have to add them to your shopping cart and then hand over your personal details. There’s no option to simply download them as you can do with the Stargrunt rules from the Ground Zero Games website.
Mongoose publishing have released their new Judge Dredd rules free on their website:
These rules are, and always will be free to download. Judge Dredd is a 28mm skirmish game designed to be quick, easy to learn, and capable of handling the madness that is Mega-City One, from the powerful judges to the lowliest punk or mutant.
Their Gangs of Mega City One rules were criticised for being too much like a Necromunda type game, so hopefully this will give a better Dredd type game.
Simon McDowall has updated his rules for the Wars of the Spanish Succession
The main focus of these wargames rules is European warfare from roughly 1700-1720. It was a period of military history that bridged the gap from the ‘pike and shot’ armies of the preceding century to the familiar ‘horse and musket’ armies that saw their full development in the latter half of the 18th Century.
He also has a new scenario for Blenheim on his site too.
Between Autumn of 1997 and Summer 1999 I ran a small newsletter for the Society of Twentieth Century Wargamers specialising in the Vietnam War period. The newletter was written for those technically minded on an old Amiga computer as PC’s in those days were still out of the reach of us mere mortals. There was also a few of the articles published back on my first website.
I recently has an email requesting a chart for weather in SE Asia produced in one of those newsletters. I re-wrote the article as I do not have electronic copies of the old newsletter and converted to a PDF.
Since I have gone to the trouble of re-producing the chart I thought I might as share it with the rest of the world.
A while ago David Child-Dennis sent me a nice set of Rules for the Battle of Britain. They were quite popular with over 300 downloads.
Today he sent me an updated version of the rules in one PDF. They are very nicely produced too.
I have seen many variants of rules over the years, from the simple Crossfire versions taking it to Vietnam era, many variants of warmaster taking it from historical up to the cold war and beyond. But is is unusual for a modern set of rules to be taken back to the horse and musket period.
That’s exactly what happened when I was sent The Thin Red Line by Chris Gavin. They have also provided an Army List.
Alot of work has gone into the rules and if you are a fan of FOW or Napoleonics they are worth a look.
Both sets of documents are in the new Microsoft Word docx format. If you don’t have the new version of word there are 2 alternatives OpenOffice which is my default Office application and its free. Secondly download the files and upload to Zamzar and convert to a format you can handle, I suggest PDF.
