Just finished the website upgrade and maintenance. Please report any errors to me.
I have now upgraded the guestbook. This is easier to maintain, doesn’t require me to approve all posts and has good inbuilt security. It also emails me everytime a new entry is made so I can keep an eye out for spammers.
The website is having a slight upgrade over the next 48 hours so there might be some disruption when visiting. Most of it is behind the scene stuff which will help me to maintain the site.
The visible new differences will be an inbuilt search engine instead of using the Google, it should be more efficient.
The second noticeable difference will be that the main categories will be permanently displayed on the right as opposed to clicking on Rules on the top bar every time, which even I find is a pain.
Some minor things to sort before that, like revamp of the whats new page, the newsfeed and creation of a new twitter page
I have now joined Twitter so I should add a few updates on there as well as my blog. My latest updates to twitter can be found on the right.
I would be interested on who else out there is on twitter, I have discovered Pendraken are.
I had a couple of problems with the new stat software and for a couple of days it lost all hits, but this has now been rectified.
Average Unique Visitors per Day = 500
Browsers: IE7 = 42%, IE6 - 21%, Firefox = 27%
Operating Systems: Windows XP = 68% Vista = 19% Mac OS = 5% and Linux = 1%
Country of Origin: USA = 36%, UK = 23%, Australia = 6%, Canada = 5%, Italy = 5%
Search Engine Referrers: Google = 84%, Yahoo = 8% and MSN = 3%
Most Visited Pages: Whats New = 16%
Periods by popularity: = WW2, Sci Fi, Napoleonic, Modern, Fantasy, Misc, 19th Century, Ancient, Medieval 18th Century
I will soon put some web counters on the pages to show activity. Stats software supplied by Web Statistik
A couple of things have now been added to the site.
Search
When I upgraded the site to the new look I forgot to add a sitesearch to it. Well finally got around to it tonight so that should please a few people.
Web Stats
These were being monitored by Google but I was never happy with the result so I have now added my own software to track visitors to the site. I have quite detailed information on visitors and how they are getting to the website and if they are using a search engine what criteria is being used. This should help tweak my search engine optimisation
In the near future I will be adding a counter which tracks the number of visitors to the site together with current users at the site.
I will publish some stats here once its been up and running for a month.
Still To Do
I need to add a sitemap page as lots of search engines look for this. In the meantime I’m having a short break.
I have now set up this new blog where all new posts are hosted. This allows me to host all the files on my own site and allow me to customise in future as I see fit.
An archive of my old blog can be found here: Old Blog Archive
