Rank and File Rules

Friday, February 27, 2009 by pete284

Mark from Crusader Publishing has announced on several forums the imminent release of his new Horse and Musket rules called Rank and File.

Rank and File are a set of horse and musket rules that cover the period from 1740 through to 1900. The basic game mechanics are designed to be simple and easy to learn with the aim of being able to play large games within a reasonable time frame

I already have the Crusader rules, which I really like and they are very well presented. This looks like they will follow the same quality.

They are being released in the next few weeks in both hard copy and PDF format. Definitely will purchase these.

Just seen an announcement from Ed at Two Hour Wargames that he is releasing an update to Chain Reaction 2.

And now we’re giving you Chain Reaction 3.0.

That’s right, ‘giving you’ as in it’s free. All the latest mechanics currently used by our regular games, like 5150, All Things Zombie, and the rest.

Due to be released next week. I’m looking forward to this one.

Website Upgrade Complete

Just finished the website upgrade and maintenance. Please report any errors to me.

Minor Website Updates

Friday, February 13, 2009 by pete284

I have now upgraded the guestbook. This is easier to maintain, doesn’t require me to approve all posts and has good inbuilt security. It also emails me everytime a new entry is made so I can keep an eye out for spammers.

The website is having a slight upgrade over the next 48 hours so there might be some disruption when visiting. Most of it is behind the scene stuff which will help me to maintain the site.

The visible new differences will be an inbuilt search engine instead of using the Google, it should be more efficient.

The second noticeable difference will be that the main categories will be permanently displayed on the right as opposed to clicking on Rules on the top bar every time, which even I find is a pain.

Some minor things to sort before that, like revamp of the whats new page, the newsfeed and creation of a new twitter page

Campaigns of General William Augustus Pettygree

Tuesday, February 10, 2009 by pete284

Heard about this great site by Bill Protz (who used to run the Seven Years War Association) via the Meeples and Miniatures Podcast.

Its a boys own adventure where Bill refights a colonial campaign, takes hundreds of photgraphs and publishes them as a boys own adventure. Excellent reading as a gamer.

An Old School Fictional Campaign
Adapted from dynamics of Jack Scruby, Donald Featherstone, Tony Bath and Peter Gilder. This is a serialized novelette told mostly by captioned photos of an on-going solo and participatory fictional campaign.
