New Paint Shader
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 by pete284For a while now on the various wargames forums there has been talk of the “dip” method of painting figures. Basically you block paint your figures in basic detail. You then dip your figure into the magic dip solution. The figures come out nicely shaded.
There are various ways of making this dip solution, one of which uses floor polish.
I purchased some painted Sci Fi figures from ebay which in the photos look well painted. When they arrived the painting was very poor. I couldn’t get hold of the floor polish so purchased a Walnut woodstain. I dipped the figure in and it came out completely black I couldn’t see the paint underneath. I then realised you have to dab the excess off. Any I must say I was impressed with the result and it certainly improved the figures.
A couple of years ago a professional product was released called Army Painter which was not cheap when released but is a better price now. (£18 for 250ml) The outlay was alot if you weren’t sure if it worked. Once bought though it is economical. It gives outstanding results, visit their galleries on their website.
Now Cote D’arms paints have now released Super Shader which does a similar job is reasonably priced (£4 for a 60ml bottle) and being acryllic brushed can be washed in water. They are available from all your usual Code D`arms suppliers like Black Hat .
