The War At Sea

Saturday, November 29, 2008 by pete284

Some time ago I was sent some rules by David Childs Dennis called War At Sea which cover naval warfare from 1939 - 1945. Also included was a Quick Reference Sheet

David has now sent me two more files for these rules:

Halo Clix

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 by pete284

Entered our local Poundland store. I was amazed to see they had cheap packs of Halo Clix figures.

Four figures in a pack for £1.00 so I quickly grabbed the last 6 packs on the shelf.

The figures are ideal for any skirmish Sci Fi games or for Frag

ACW Rules - Update

by pete284

Myself and Garry played a scenario for the Battle of Salem Church. Once again I was the Rebs.

Not too much went wrong with the rules, some slight tweaks here and there as we played, I will post the updates in the next couple of days.

The really surprising thing for us was that it gave us a complete historical result so the rules worked better than planned.

I’m not to sure that they will look much like FoG by the time we finish with them.

**UPDATE. Latest file now attached.

New Paint Shader

Wednesday, November 19, 2008 by pete284

For a while now on the various wargames forums there has been talk of the “dip” method of painting figures. Basically you block paint your figures in basic detail. You then dip your figure into the magic dip solution. The figures come out nicely shaded.

There are various ways of making this dip solution, one of which uses floor polish.

I purchased some painted Sci Fi figures from ebay which in the photos look well painted. When they arrived the painting was very poor. I couldn’t get hold of the floor polish so purchased a Walnut woodstain. I dipped the figure in and it came out completely black I couldn’t see the paint underneath. I then realised you have to dab the excess off. Any I must say I was impressed with the result and it certainly improved the figures.

A couple of years ago a professional product was released called Army Painter which was not cheap when released but is a better price now. (£18 for 250ml) The outlay was alot if you weren’t sure if it worked. Once bought though it is economical. It gives outstanding results, visit their galleries on their website.

Now Cote D’arms paints have now released Super Shader which does a similar job is reasonably priced (£4 for a 60ml bottle) and being acryllic brushed can be washed in water. They are available from all your usual Code D`arms suppliers like Black Hat .

Website Upgrades

Friday, November 14, 2008 by pete284

A couple of things have now been added to the site.

Search
When I upgraded the site to the new look I forgot to add a sitesearch to it. Well finally got around to it tonight so that should please a few people.

Web Stats
These were being monitored by Google but I was never happy with the result so I have now added my own software to track visitors to the site. I have quite detailed information on visitors and how they are getting to the website and if they are using a search engine what criteria is being used. This should help tweak my search engine optimisation

In the near future I will be adding a counter which tracks the number of visitors to the site together with current users at the site.

I will publish some stats here once its been up and running for a month.

Still To Do
I need to add a sitemap page as lots of search engines look for this. In the meantime I’m having a short break.
