Ancient Combat

Ancient combat relies on a system in which each action has a difficulty check. Difficulty checks are all made on six sided dice and may be modified by the difficulty of the check.

Ancient Wargame Rules
These rules can be used from antiquity up until the late medieval period, they depart from the norm in that they have no rigid turn sequence. All references to dice are D6.

Ancients
These wargames rules are designed to recreate the battles of the ancient world on the table top. They are aimed principally at the period from 600 B.C. to 700 A.D. They are designed for use with 15, 20 or 25 mm figures.

Ancients By Ral
The ancient battles described in these rules are fought between armed groups of men led by valiant leaders. The units are composed of "figures," six for mounted units (cavalry) and twelve for foot (infantry).

Ancients D6

A fast playing game of Ancient combat.  Games usually last about 1 hour and require armies of 50-100 figures.  The game can be scaled up for larger engagements.

Century

Designed for skirmishes or minor battles between century sized units of the classical era. It was originally intended for the period 400 BC to about about 150 BC but could probably be used from about 680 BC to to about 300 AD.

Ancient battle system based on DBM and adapted to be played on a hexagonal board. (Translation from Vae Victis magazine).

Charge!

The design ethos behind the creation of this game is to provide easy to use rules for fighting large battles that don't a whole weekend to play through.

Chariot Master

The authors a fan of the chariot races of ancient Rome and a fan of Warmaster and especially the Warmaster miniatures, so he wrote some chariot racing rules for Warmaster chariots.

Civitates Bellantes
An adaptation of the Comitatus mehcanisms to cover the entire era of ‘classical’ antiquity (500 BC-AD 200). These are still a work in progress and I am developing them together with Caoimhín Boru.

Corvus

A fast play naval game set during the Punic Wars. It was written to use with 1:650 ships. It can be used with 1:1200 scale ships with very little modification.

A set of ground-based rules designed to accompany the Richard Lee's CORVUS (or any other Ancient Naval rules) when played in 1/1200 or smaller scales.

Crouching Hero, Hidden Daggers

A fantasy skirmish based on the more fantastical type of chinese martial arts movie. With characters inspired by the Water Margin. Simple rules, with action cards.

DBA

The first edition of DE BELLIS ANTIQUITATIS (usually known as DBA). The title (inspired by Caesar's De Bello Gallico) may be variously translated as "Concerning Ancient Wars" or "About the wars of the Ancients" or other similar phrases. The copy of first edition DBA included here is well-worn copy with notes and amendments written in it, but it gives a good idea of this whole group of rules.

A test set for a game involving Pirates, Romans and Gauls which was used for Sue's game "Asterix and Redbeard's Treasure" at COW 2007.

DBSA Fast Play Rules
